Yantai, January 12 (China News Service reporter Wang Jiaoni) -- Heavy snowfall occurred in Yantai and Weihai, northern parts of the Shandong Peninsula, over the past weekend. The snowfall stopped on the 12th, creating a winter landscape where snow and sea met in the same frame, attracting tourists to enjoy the snow and listen to the waves.

According to China Weather Network, from January 10th to 11th, moderate to heavy snow fell in northern Yantai and Weihai, Shandong Province, with some areas experiencing blizzards. The maximum snow depth at Weihai station reached 21 centimeters. This snowfall was a typical "cold air mass snowfall," with dense snowflakes falling and visibility rapidly decreasing.

"Cold air mass snowfall" is a strong convective snowfall phenomenon that occurs when cold air flows over a relatively warm sea surface, causing water vapor to condense due to the temperature difference between the sea and the air. This phenomenon mainly occurs along the coast of the Yellow Sea and the Bohai Sea, with Yantai and Weihai in the Shandong Peninsula being the most typical examples. These two places are therefore known as "China's Snow Nests" and have a unique coastal snow city landscape.

Heavy snowfall in Yantai and Weihai became a trending topic, prompting humorous comments from netizens who marveled at the unique coastal snowscapes: the snow in Yantai was so heavy it looked like it was "smoking," while the snowfall in Weihai felt like a "torrential downpour"...

While the snowfall caused some inconvenience to urban transportation and daily life, it also created a unique winter landscape along the coastline. Along the coast of Yantai's First Bathing Beach, the waves and snow reflected each other, and seagulls soared among them; in Weihai's "Torch Eighth Street," the snow-covered road stretched towards the sea, attracting many tourists to stop and take pictures.

Along the coastlines of Yantai and Weihai, the sight of snow and sea blending together is a common sight. Li Nanxin, a tourist from Suzhou, said, "This is the first time I've seen snow and sea blend together. The sea after the snow is exceptionally calm, and this scene is very healing."

In response to the low temperatures and icy weather, local sanitation and transportation departments worked overnight to clear snow and ice. Coastal scenic areas strengthened patrols along the coast and reminded tourists to take precautions against slippery surfaces and strong winds. The meteorological department predicts that most of Shandong will see sunny skies over the next three days, but Yantai and Weihai will still have deep snow accumulation; residents are advised to continue taking precautions against slippery surfaces when going out.
