NEW YORK, Jan. 12 (China News Service) -- On January 11 local time, the Chinese team performed outstandingly at the FIS Freestyle Skiing Aerials World Cup in Lake Placid. Wang Xindi won the men's aerials title with a score of 103.50, securing her first gold medal of the season. Xu Mengtao, the Beijing Winter Olympics champion, won the women's silver medal, and Qi Guangpu won the men's bronze medal.
In the men's competition, four Chinese athletes advanced to the finals after the preliminary rounds. Due to unfavorable weather conditions during the finals, most athletes opted for conservative routines. Wang Xindi was the only athlete to use a routine with a difficulty score of 5.0 or higher, and his outstanding performance in the final round earned him 103.50 points, surpassing Ukrainian athlete Havliuk to win the gold medal. Qi Guangpu won the bronze medal, while Sun Jiaxu and Li Xinpeng finished fifth and seventh respectively.
In the women's competition, 35-year-old Xu Mengtao also performed exceptionally well, completing a triple somersault in the final and winning the silver medal with a score of 94.01. The gold medal went to another 35-year-old veteran, Australian athlete Scott, with a score of 95.88, her first World Cup title since March 2023. China's Kong Fanyu and Shao Qi finished fourth and eighth respectively.
