Nanning, January 12 (Reporter Yang Chen) -- According to the Department of Agriculture and Rural Affairs of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, Guangxi and Thailand have carried out comprehensive and multi-level in-depth cooperation in the agricultural sector in recent years, leveraging their geographical advantages and deep cultural ties. From January to November 2025, the total trade volume of agricultural products between Guangxi and Thailand reached 4.47 billion yuan (RMB), of which exports amounted to 410 million yuan, representing a year-on-year increase of 18.2%.

The booming cross-border sales of tropical fruits testify to the vitality of trade between Guangxi and Thailand. Currently, Guangxi's main agricultural exports to Thailand include meat, citrus fruits, and aquatic products; while Thailand's specialty agricultural products exported to Guangxi are mainly durian, cassava, mangosteen, nuts, feathers, and longan. Among these, durian trade is a "star sector" of bilateral trade cooperation.

Taking 2024 as an example, Thailand's durian exports to China reached US$3 billion, with the vast majority entering China through the "green channel" for cross-border fruit trade at ports such as Friendship Pass and Dongxing in Guangxi. The annual "Thailand Durian Festival" and other special marketing events held in Nanning have further integrated Thai fruit culture into the lives of the Chinese public, deepening cultural understanding and emotional connections between the two sides.

Meanwhile, agricultural technology cooperation between Guangxi and Thailand has also injected strong momentum into industrial transformation and upgrading. In May 2025, the Guangxi Academy of Fishery Sciences and the Thai-Chinese Science and Technology Association officially signed a memorandum of understanding to provide professional technical support for seahorse and shrimp farming in Thailand, and to carry out technical training and project collaboration to help improve the quality and efficiency of Thailand's aquaculture industry.

Guangxi Jiejiarun Technology Group Co., Ltd. has created a smart agriculture project in Chanthaburi Province, an important durian producing area in Thailand. Through intelligent water and fertilizer integration technology, the project helps local orchards save 50% of water and 30% of fertilizer, further improving fruit quality.

According to incomplete statistics, in recent years, Guangxi and Thailand have made more than a dozen mutual investments in the agricultural sector, covering multiple key links such as agricultural product planting, deep processing (such as durian chips and durian pastry production), warehousing and logistics.

Furthermore, agricultural scientists from Guangxi and Thailand maintain frequent exchanges. The Guangxi Academy of Agricultural Sciences and institutions such as Rajamangala University in Thailand conduct over 100 mutual visits annually, building consensus through technical discussions and experience sharing, and promoting the practical application of agricultural scientific and technological achievements. Guangxi Agricultural Vocational and Technical University and Northern Bangkok University in Thailand have launched a student exchange program to cultivate and reserve professional talent for agricultural cooperation.
