The Asian Beach Games is the highest-level beach sports event in Asia. The Sanya Asian Beach Games is the second time my country has hosted the Asian Beach Games, following the 2012 Haiyang Asian Beach Games, and it is also the first time Hainan Province has hosted an international multi-sport event. Successfully hosting the Sanya Asian Beach Games is of great significance for comprehensively showcasing China's new achievements in modernization, the new progress in the construction of the Hainan Free Trade Port, and the new developments in building a strong sporting nation, as well as promoting the building of a community with a shared future for mankind.
Li Jing stated that the Asian Beach Games will feature 14 major sports, 15 sub-sports, and 63 events, including both Olympic and Asian Games staples such as swimming and sailing, as well as emerging sports like Teqball and beach Kabaddi. The venue layout has been finalized, with eight venue clusters hosting the competitions. Eight competition venue teams have been formed, with the General Administration of Sport and Hainan Province selecting highly skilled and experienced personnel to participate in venue operations. Sports registration is progressing smoothly, with 3,798 athletes from 45 Asian countries and regions completing their initial registration. The second registration period will run from January 10th to February 10th. Starting January 16th, test events for sailing, beach volleyball, Teqball, and dual-track events will commence to comprehensively test venue operations, equipment and facilities, local support, and command and dispatch. The General Administration of Sport, in conjunction with Hainan Province, is comprehensively reviewing potential risks related to competition organization, extreme weather, and venue equipment, developing contingency plans, and conducting emergency drills to ensure the safe hosting of the Games.
Regarding the national team's preparations for the Games, Li Jing introduced that the Chinese sports delegation is expected to send 190 athletes to compete in 13 major events and 61 sub-events, excluding beach kabaddi. Among these, beach volleyball, climbing, 3x3 basketball, swimming, and sailing will serve as practical training for the Los Angeles Olympics, playing a crucial role in talent discovery, team development, and evaluating preparation effectiveness. Dragon boat racing, beach athletics, and beach handball, which are Asian Games gold medal events, will strive for even better results. Emerging sports such as jiu-jitsu and teqball will encourage active participation from the community, exploring beneficial models for the diversified development of sports. The General Administration of Sport will guide each participating team in targeted training, while also ensuring the selection and dispatch of athletes, team education and management, and anti-doping efforts, ensuring a double harvest of athletic achievements and sportsmanship. Through participation, beach and water sports will be vigorously promoted, driving the simultaneous development of competitive sports, mass sports, and youth sports, contributing to the construction of the Hainan International Free Trade Port and accelerating the building of a strong sports nation.
