ASTANA, Jan. 12 (Xinhua) -- Kazakhstan's GDP grew by 6.5 percent year on year from January to December 2025, according to preliminary data from the National Statistical Service of Kazakhstan, the Prime Minister's Office announced on Tuesday. Key sectors such as industry, transportation, construction, and trade maintained rapid growth, driving the overall economy steadily upward.
Data shows that Kazakhstan's industrial production index increased by 7.4% year-on-year in 2025, with the processing and manufacturing sector growing by 6.4%. Sub-sectors such as oil refining, chemicals, metallurgy, and machinery manufacturing showed particularly strong growth, with the machinery manufacturing sector showing a remarkable 12.9% year-on-year increase.
Kazakhstan's transportation and logistics sector continued its rapid growth in 2025, with the transportation and warehousing industry growing by 20.4% year-on-year. The continued rise in rail and road freight volumes spurred growth in related service industries such as freight forwarding, air traffic management, airport operations, and warehousing services. Kazakh media pointed out that in recent years, Kazakhstan has continuously promoted road reconstruction, the construction of new transportation hubs, and the development of logistics infrastructure, creating favorable conditions for the growth of related industries.
The construction industry maintained a high growth rate, increasing by 15.9% year-on-year. Data shows that by 2025, the country's newly built housing area will reach 20.1 million square meters, a year-on-year increase of 5.1%. Kazakh media pointed out that Kazakhstan's continued investment in education, healthcare, transportation, and other livelihood and infrastructure sectors has effectively driven the growth of the construction industry.
Total trade volume increased by 8.9% year-on-year, continuing the previous growth momentum. Wholesale trade grew rapidly, providing a strong boost to overall growth. Data shows that sales of key commodities such as grain and feed, machinery and equipment, pharmaceuticals, automobiles, and dairy products grew rapidly, reflecting continued active market demand.
In addition, agriculture, forestry and fisheries grew by 5.9% year-on-year, and information and communication industries grew by 3.6% year-on-year.
