Beijing, January 12 (Xinhua) -- A book launch for "The Yangtze River in Pictures" and a symposium on the publication of the "National Cultural Parks in Pictures Series" were recently held in Beijing.
"The Pictorial Biography of the Yangtze River" is jointly published by Jiangsu People's Publishing House and Jiangsu Phoenix Fine Arts Publishing House, both subsidiaries of Phoenix Publishing & Media Group. The book, comprising 10 chapters, 180,000 words, and over 300 pictures, brings together treasures from hundreds of museums, weaving together stories of water conservancy, the land of fish and rice, natural wonders, and a flourishing literary tradition. It showcases both the grandeur of the natural ecology and the brilliance of human wisdom.
As part of the "National Cultural Park Pictorial Series," "The Yangtze River Pictorial Series," together with "The Grand Canal Pictorial Series," "The Great Wall Pictorial Series," "The Long March Pictorial Series," and "The Yellow River Pictorial Series," constitutes a five-volume cultural classic. The series interprets the elegance of the Grand Canal, the grandeur of the Great Wall, the ambition of the Long March, the soul of the Yellow River, and the charm of the Yangtze River.

He Yun'ao, director of the Institute of Cultural and Natural Heritage at Nanjing University and executive editor of "The Yangtze River Pictorial Biography," said that the book was three years in the making and underwent more than 30 revisions. It draws on the wisdom of many and learns from the strengths of others, striving to present the profound cultural heritage of the Yangtze River with a rigorous academic attitude and vivid presentation.
It is reported that the "National Cultural Park Pictorial Series" is edited by the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) on Culture, History and Learning, and compiled by the Chinese Academy of Cultural Heritage, the Yellow River Institute of Hydraulic Research, and the Institute of Cultural and Natural Heritage of Nanjing University. The series aims to explore, organize, and showcase the unique creations, values, and distinctive features of important symbols of Chinese culture such as the Grand Canal, the Great Wall, the Long March, the Yellow River, and the Yangtze River, allowing more readers to understand national cultural parks and appreciate Chinese civilization.
