BEIJING, Jan. 12 (China News Service) -- The 6th Asian Beach Games will be held in Sanya, Hainan Province, from April 22 to 30. With 100 days to go, Li Jing, vice chairman of the Asian Beach Games Organizing Committee and deputy director of the General Administration of Sport of China, said in Beijing on January 12 that the Chinese sports delegation is expected to send 190 athletes to compete in 13 sports and 61 events, excluding beach kabaddi.
On the same day, the State Council Information Office of China held a press conference in Beijing to introduce the preparations for the Games. Li Jing said that the Asian Beach Games is the highest-level beach sports event in Asia. The Sanya Asian Beach Games is the second time China has hosted the Asian Beach Games after the Haiyang Asian Beach Games in 2012, and it is also the first time that Hainan Province has hosted an international multi-sport event.
The Asian Beach Games will feature 14 sports, 15 disciplines, and 63 events, including both Olympic and Asian Games staples such as swimming and sailing, as well as emerging sports like Teqball and beach kabaddi. Li Jing stated that the venue layout has been finalized, with eight venue clusters hosting the competitions. Eight competition venue teams have been formed, and the General Administration of Sport and Hainan Province have selected highly skilled and experienced professionals to participate in the venue operations.
Li Jing said that sports registration is proceeding in an orderly manner. 3,798 athletes from 45 countries and regions in Asia have completed the first registration. The second registration will be conducted from January 10 to February 10. Starting from January 16, test events for events such as sailing, beach volleyball, Teqball, and duathlon will be held one after another to comprehensively test all aspects of the work, including venue operation, equipment and facilities, local support, command and dispatch.
Regarding the national team's preparations for the Games, Li Jing stated that the Chinese sports delegation is expected to have 190 athletes participating in 13 major events and 61 minor events, excluding beach kabaddi. Among them, beach volleyball, rock climbing, 3x3 basketball, swimming, and sailing will serve as practical training for the Los Angeles Olympics, playing an important role in discovering talent, developing the team, and testing the effectiveness of preparations.
In addition, teams will strive for even better results in Asian Games gold medal events such as dragon boat racing, beach athletics, and beach handball. Emerging sports like Jiu-Jitsu and Teqball will encourage active participation from the community, exploring beneficial models for the diversified development of sports. The General Administration of Sport will guide participating teams in targeted training and preparation, while also ensuring effective selection and deployment of participants, team education and management, and anti-doping efforts, ensuring a double harvest of athletic achievements and sportsmanship.
