This information was obtained by reporters on the 7th from the 2026 National Postal Work Conference held by the State Post Bureau.
Data shows that during the 14th Five-Year Plan period, the business revenue of my country's postal industry increased to 1.8 trillion yuan, with an average annual growth of more than 10%, ranking among the top in the modern service industry; the average annual express delivery usage per person increased to 141 pieces, and the highest daily business volume reached 777 million pieces.
Postal coverage in rural and border areas has significantly improved, with the number of service outlets increasing nearly 1.5 times compared to five years ago. Postal service is now available to all border villages nationwide, and Xinjiang and Tibet have ended the era of not offering free shipping for e-commerce parcels. "Over the past five years, the proportion of express delivery revenue and volume in the central and western regions of China has increased by 5.4 and 7.5 percentage points respectively, effectively promoting the integration of the central and western regions into the unified national market," said Zhao Chongjiu, Director of the State Post Bureau.
Over the past five years, my country's postal industry has continuously improved its service capabilities. Large-scale sorting centers have largely achieved automated operation, unmanned warehouses are expanding in scale, pilot projects using unmanned vehicles have yielded positive results, drones are operating routinely in some areas, and cloud computing and big data models are being rapidly applied in various scenarios such as demand forecasting, intelligent warehouse management, intelligent scheduling, and route planning. "The postal and express delivery industry's overall transportation efficiency, level of informatization and organization, service scope, and cost-effectiveness remain among the world's best," said Zhao Chongjiu.
Zhao Chongjiu stated that in 2026, the postal industry will issue policy documents to accelerate the promotion and application of unmanned delivery technology, and deepen the pilot application of unmanned vehicles and drones in the industry. It will promote automated facilities and equipment such as intelligent sorting, intelligent cloud warehouses, and intelligent security checks, and accelerate the application of advanced technologies such as intelligent delivery and intelligent routing. It will promote the application of green product technologies such as reusable packaging, new energy vehicles, and photovoltaic power generation, and promote green and low-carbon development through intelligent route optimization and intelligent packing algorithms. It will continue to consolidate the achievements of free shipping in Xinjiang and Tibet. It will accelerate the construction of overseas air cargo terminals and overseas warehouses to improve the international postal and logistics service capabilities and levels.
