Xinhua News Agency, Beijing, January 8 – Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Mao Ning, in response to a question regarding the research report "Japan's Right-Wing Nuclear Ambitions: A Serious Threat to World Peace" released that day, stated at a regular press conference on January 8 that the increasingly inflated nuclear ambitions of the Japanese right wing are a dangerous signal of the resurgence of Japanese militarism and pose a serious threat to world peace and stability. Japan should face up to the just calls of the international community, immediately clarify its position on the nuclear weapons issue, and abide by its obligations under the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons and the "three non-nuclear principles."
Mao Ning pointed out that since the new Japanese government took office, it has impatiently exposed the nuclear ambitions of the Japanese right wing. High-ranking officials, including Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi, have pushed for revisions to the "Three Non-Nuclear Principles," hinted at the introduction of nuclear submarines, encouraged the strengthening of so-called "extended deterrence" against Japan, and openly declared that Japan should possess nuclear weapons. These actions by Japan are a serious challenge to the international nuclear non-proliferation system based on the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons and the post-war international order, provoking strong opposition from the international community and various sectors within Japan.
