On January 11, 2026, Wang Yi, member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and Foreign Minister, held a video call with all staff members of the Chinese Embassy in Somalia during his visit to Africa.
Wang Yi extended his sincere greetings to all staff members of the Chinese Embassy in Somalia and conveyed the Party Committee of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs' warm regards. Wang Yi stated that the Chinese Embassy in Somalia is one of the Chinese embassies and consulates abroad facing the most complex security situation and the most challenging working and living conditions. You all work and live year-round in container houses, facing complex and severe risks of terrorism every day, and enduring various challenges such as high temperatures, high salinity, high humidity, and shortages of supplies. I and all my colleagues at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs have always been concerned about you all; although we cannot meet in person this time, our hearts are still connected.
First, we are deeply concerned. The Party Central Committee and the Party Committee of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs have always kept in mind all comrades stationed in harsh and war-torn regions, and the Chinese Embassy in Somalia is a prime example. Shortly after its reopening in 2015, the embassy suffered a terrorist attack, resulting in the deaths and injuries of embassy staff. Your well-being and safety are always on the motherland's mind. Thank you for your hard work!
Second, perseverance. The fact that comrades worked and lived under such difficult and dangerous conditions is itself a form of dedication, embodying the glorious tradition of China's diplomatic corps. Their perseverance has ensured that the five-starred red flag always flies high in the Horn of Africa, forging a strong bulwark for Chinese diplomacy.
Third, we are enterprising. Faced with various difficulties and challenges, we have been fearless, proactive, and hardworking, resolutely safeguarding the core interests of the country and vigorously promoting the development of China-Sosoumise relations, making new contributions to advancing China's diplomacy with Africa.
Fourth, tempering and refining. All diplomatic personnel must thoroughly implement the important requirements put forward by General Secretary Xi Jinping for the diplomatic corps, be loyal to the Party, be courageous and responsible, dare to fight and be good at fighting, and be strictly disciplined. They must weather the storms, broaden their horizons, strengthen their resolve, and enhance their abilities in international struggles, thus writing a new chapter for the iron-willed diplomatic force in the new era.
Ambassador Wang Yu, on behalf of all embassy staff, thanked Comrade Wang Yi for his greetings and expressed that they would keep in mind the entrustment of the Party and the people, adhere to the Party's leadership, make solid progress in both domestic and international work, promote greater development of China-Soviet relations, and make new contributions to China's major-country diplomacy with Chinese characteristics in the new era.
