(CNS) Beijing, January 12 – According to reports, Israel launched an airstrike on Lebanon on January 11, killing at least one person. Lebanese President Joseph Aoun stated that day that the disarmament plan targeting armed groups nationwide would continue.
According to The Times of Israel, Israeli forces launched strikes against multiple Hezbollah targets in Lebanon on the 11th. Al Jazeera reported that Israeli attacks targeted southern Lebanon north of the Litani River, causing severe damage to several buildings. That evening, Israeli forces attacked a car in the southern Lebanese city of Bint Jubail, killing one person.
According to the Lebanese National News Agency, Aoun said in an interview with Lebanese state television on the 11th that the Lebanese military is continuing to perform its duties in various regions across the country, advancing the disarmament plan against armed groups nationwide. However, because the military is simultaneously responsible for ensuring domestic security, defending borders, counter-terrorism, and combating drug trafficking, but has limited resources, the completion of the disarmament plan must be carried out gradually.
Aoun also emphasized that Lebanon would not abandon its disarmament plan, and that Israel's withdrawal and cessation of aggression would greatly promote stability and accelerate the implementation of the plan.
According to Al Jazeera, the Lebanese military announced on the 8th that it had completed the first phase of its disarmament plan. Israel, however, believes that Lebanon has not made sufficient efforts in disarming Hezbollah and continues its attacks on Hezbollah targets within Lebanon.
Since October 2023, Hezbollah has launched frequent attacks on Israel, while the Israeli military has retaliated with strikes against targets in southern Lebanon. In November 2024, Israel and Lebanon reached a ceasefire agreement. However, since then, the Israeli military has continued to launch frequent airstrikes within Lebanon, causing numerous casualties.
