Reporters learned today that the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) has officially released the international standard "Tribological properties of bearing materials for sliding bearings - Part 1: Testing of bearing alloys". This standard was led by my country, with experts from seven countries including Japan, Germany, the United Kingdom, France, and Austria participating in its development.
Sliding bearings are hailed as the "joints" of industrial equipment, their performance directly determining the reliability, efficiency, and lifespan of heavy machinery, precision machine tools, high-efficiency motors, and even high-end equipment such as wind turbines and high-speed trains. For a long time, the incomparability of product test data due to differing testing standards and methods has been a major obstacle to industrial development. This international standard focuses on the demanding working condition of boundary lubrication, fully incorporating cutting-edge research results and industrial practice experience. Through thousands of experimental verifications and result data analysis, it refines sample preparation, standardizes test parameters, and imposes stringent surface roughness and environmental requirements. For the first time, it establishes a highly reproducible international unified testing standard, systematically solving the long-standing industry pain point of insufficient comparability of similar test results globally.
