Legal Online | Remember These Frequently Occurring Scam Keywords: Impersonating Military Personnel

Recently, the Changzhi Anti-Fraud Center in Shanxi Province received an accurate warning that Ms. Li from Xiangyuan County was suspected of being a victim of telecommunications and online fraud. After transferring 560,000 yuan to the fraudsters, she still made an appointment to withdraw 950,000 yuan from the bank the next morning to make payments. The police immediately rushed to Ms. Li's home to dissuade her.

Upon verification, it was found that Ms. Li had met the scammer while listening to music online. They had known each other for two months but had never met in person, and the scammer was impersonating a soldier to commit fraud. Ultimately, the police successfully dissuaded Ms. Li from transferring any more money, saving her the remaining nearly one million yuan.

Gaining trust by impersonating a "military person"

Inducing investment transfers

Police officers from the National Anti-Fraud Center warn the public not to easily trust strangers met online, even if they are dressed in military uniform and claim to be soldiers. Scammers often use the "military" identity to gain favor and then lure people into transferring money with promises of "internal investment" and "guaranteed profits." The National Anti-Fraud Center officers have summarized several keywords commonly used in such scams.

Li Zhenkai, a police officer at the National Anti-Fraud Center, warned: "If you hear these words, please be vigilant: military organization, military procurement, security deposit, internal staffing, internal quotas, confidentiality agreements, and offline cash payments. These are common keywords in anti-fraud campaigns targeting the military. Anyone claiming to be a soldier and asking for a so-called security deposit, handling fee, or requesting to use internal procedures or confidential channels is a scammer. Regular military units have strict discipline and will never charge individuals any fees or deal with private individuals."

Don't discuss money or investments in online dating; don't easily trust others.

In addition, police officers from the National Anti-Fraud Center warn that although some fake platforms may show that the account has a balance and can be withdrawn, these are all controlled by the scammers in the background. In reality, the money has already been withdrawn by them. Once the victim tries to withdraw the money, the other party will refuse to let the money through various excuses.

Let's highlight the key points together.

Don't talk about money in online dating, don't easily believe in investment opportunities, and if you encounter problems withdrawing money, it's most likely a scam!
