Beijing, January 12 (Reporters Huang Yuqin and Zeng Yue) – Chinese Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Mao Ning hosted a regular press conference on January 12.

A reporter asked: It has been reported that on the 9th, Taiwan stated that the joint press communiqué of the China-Africa Strategic Dialogue contained content that seriously distorted the facts and denigrated Taiwan's "sovereignty," and expressed regret over the African Union's endorsement of China's position. What is China's comment on this?

Mao Ning: The one-China principle is a universal consensus of the international community and a basic norm of international relations, as well as the political foundation of China-Africa relations. The Beijing Declaration, adopted at the 2024 Forum on China-Africa Cooperation Beijing Summit, saw participating African countries and the African Union Commission reaffirm their firm adherence to the one-China principle, reaffirm that there is only one China in the world, that Taiwan is an inseparable part of China's territory, that the government of the People's Republic of China is the sole legal government representing the whole of China, and that they firmly support all efforts made by the Chinese government to achieve national reunification.

The joint press communiqué of the Ninth China-AU Strategic Dialogue fully and accurately reflects the African side's consistent and clear stance on the Taiwan issue. Just two days ago, AU Commission Chairperson Yusuf stated in an interview, "On upholding the one-China principle, the AU will always stand with China." We urge the Taiwan authorities to recognize reality and cease their self-humiliating political performance. (End)
