Beijing, January 12 (Reporters Huang Yuqin and Zeng Yue) – Chinese Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Mao Ning hosted a regular press conference on January 12.
A reporter asked: The US leader said that if Iran harms protesters, China will take action against it. What is China's comment on this?
Mao Ning: China hopes that the Iranian government and people can overcome the current difficulties and maintain national stability. We have always opposed interference in other countries' internal affairs, consistently maintained that the sovereignty and security of all countries should be fully protected by international law, opposed the use of force or the threat of force in international relations, and called on all parties to do more to promote peace and stability in the Middle East.
Another reporter asked: There are reports that hundreds of people have died in protests in Iran. Were any Chinese citizens among them?
Mao Ning: China is closely monitoring the situation in Iran, and so far has not received any reports of Chinese citizens being injured or killed there. China will do its utmost to ensure the safety of Chinese citizens in Iran. Chinese citizens in Iran are advised to pay attention to the local security situation and take necessary measures to safeguard their own safety. If assistance is needed, please contact the Chinese Embassy in Iran or call the consular protection hotline. (End)
